About
Mr. Manamele Dannies Mashabela is an emerging academic and researcher in Biochemistry. Manamele was born and raised in a small village of Jane Furse, Limpopo, and moved to Gauteng full time during his primary school years. He completed his matric in 2013 and joined the University of Johannesburg in 2015 for an undergraduate degree in Life and Environmental Sciences, majoring in Biochemistry and Botany. Mr Mashabela later joined the Biochemistry for an honours degree, which he completed Cum Laude at the top of his class, this momentum carried him through his MSc degree, which was completed with an award as the best MSc graduate at the Biochemistry Department in 2022. Manamele then registered for his PhD a year later with a research focus on plant-microbe interactions and the biochemical mechanisms underlying these interactions.
His work is particularly centred on identifying microbial biochemical markers that influence plant growth, development, and priming for defence against biotic and abiotic stressors. Manamele’s research aims to discover and promote innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture, enhancing crop productivity, yield, and resistance. To achieve these objectives, Mr. Mashabela utilizes advanced, 4IR-inspired techniques and technologies, including computational metabolomics and transcriptomics, aligning his efforts with the urgent need to advance several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
