Our mission is to advance the frontiers of plant science and microbiology through pioneering research in two core areas: plant–microbe and microbe–microbe interactions, and natural product drug discovery. By leveraging advanced technologies such as metabolomics, machine learning, transcriptomics, proteomics, and network pharmacology, we strive to enhance agricultural productivity, promote environmentally sustainable practices, and accelerate innovation in therapeutic development. Our work is rooted in the potential of natural products to address pressing global health challenges, including malaria. All our efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP).

We envision becoming a globally recognised leader in science and technology through transformative research in plant–microbe interactions and natural product drug discovery. Our goal is to drive scientific breakthroughs that improve agricultural resilience, promote ecological sustainability, and contribute to better public health outcomes. Through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to shape a more sustainable and healthy future both locally and globally while remaining firmly aligned with the SDGs, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and South Africa’s NDP.

At the heart of our work are values that guide everything we do. We prioritise innovation, embracing emerging technologies such as metabolomics, network pharmacology, and machine learning to address complex challenges in plant and microbial sciences. We are committed to sustainability, ensuring that our research promotes responsible use of natural resources, enhances agricultural productivity, and supports food security. Our approach is rooted in collaboration, working closely with both local and international partners to generate meaningful, shared impact. We uphold the highest levels of integrity, maintaining rigorous scientific and ethical standards in all our work. Above all, we strive for impact producing research that delivers real benefits to agriculture, health, and the environment, while supporting national and continental development priorities.
