SUHAIMA MOHMED SADIK PATEL

About

Suhaima Mohmed Sadik Patel was born and raised in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, South Africa. Developing a keen interest in the natural sciences from an early age, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biology at the University of Venda, where she established a strong foundation in biochemical processes and analytical techniques. During her undergraduate studies, she excelled in courses such as protein biochemistry, biochemical techniques, and enzymology, cultivating a passion for biochemical research.

Currently, Suhaima is an Honours student in the Faculty of Science at the University of Johannesburg, specialising in metabolomics. Her Honours research focuses on a metabolomics-driven investigation into the priming effect of Paenibacillus alvei T22 exometabolites against stripe rust in wheat seedlings. This research aims to understand how plants defend against diseases and how certain microorganisms can enhance crop resilience. By utilising advanced metabolomics approaches, she seeks to contribute to sustainable agricultural strategies that mitigate disease outbreaks and enhance food security. She is dedicated to using science to improve plant health and fight disease, advancing our understanding of biochemistry and metabolomics.
