About
Tshifura Mukonazwothe Candy is a passionate biochemist and researcher from Limpopo, Venda. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Microbiology and an Honours degree in Biological Sciences: Biochemistry from the University of Venda. Her Honours research focused on the characterisation of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis DnaJ chaperone, which helped to advance the understanding of the molecular pathways involved in bacterial stress responses and possible therapeutic targets. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of Johannesburg under Dr. Mhlongo’s supervision. Her study focusses on LC-MS based metabolomics and enzyme kinetics to characterise and assess the efficacy of herbal mixes used to treat bronchitis. Mukonazwothe is passionate about drug discovery and is dedicated to making disease treatment and intervention more effective. Her research uses innovative analytical approaches to discover the efficacy of novel medicinal potentials in natural chemicals, demonstrating her commitment to scientific advancement in healthcare. She is driven by the larger goal of contributing to global health solutions, particularly in underserved communities where access to modern care is limited. She believes in the ability of biochemistry and metabolomics to bridge the gap between traditional and modern medicine, ensuring that scientific discoveries lead to practical health advantages. With a bright analytical mind and a desire to conduct influential research, she hopes to make significant contributions to biomedical sciences and pharmaceutical development.
